OUR STORY
Our story began in a church community and grew across borders, visits and everyday moments. Our shared Christian faith has been central along the way—as have the family and friends who have welcomed us into each other’s worlds.
01 / February 14, 2025 · Flagstaff
We met briefly at a church retreat in Flagstaff on February 14, 2025. There were friends, a hotel fireplace and a few pictures before goodbye. It was a simple beginning in the faith community that would remain an important part of our relationship—long before we knew where that hello would lead.
02 / May 2025 · Austin
Kiyara and Peter encouraged Matthew to invite Dalia to their wedding, after an online date about a month earlier. Their May 23 wedding gave us time together and deep conversations. The next day brought our first museum date, followed by climbing and pizza with friends: a very good excuse to keep getting to know each other.
03 / June–July 2025 · Mexico
Matthew flew to Mexico, where a letter, chocolates and flowers accompanied a question: would Dalia be his girlfriend? On June 14, 2025, the answer was yes. That visit also included paragliding, with clouds, mountain views and a story we still laugh about. At a church retreat at the end of July, we first told each other “I love you.”
04 / Across the miles
Visits meant making room for both adventure and ordinary life: hikes, meals, airport goodbyes and, sometimes, face masks while watching a show. On September 24, 2025, dinner in Allen included a conversation about marriage. Between the big moments, these small, funny, everyday ones became part of the story too.
05 / Family, friends & faith
Our relationship grew alongside family, friends and our Christian faith. Thanksgiving brought food, hymns and conversations with Matthew’s family. Church gatherings and celebrations introduced us to more of each other’s communities. Later, at a wedding, Matthew played piano and Dalia sang—a shared moment of music among the many ways our worlds began to meet.
06 / August 13, 2026 · Saltillo
An anniversary dinner at La Vaca Argentina became a proposal—with a sweet letter and a few nerves. Outside in Plaza del Congreso, we laughed, Dalia handed the ring back, and Matthew read the letter and proposed again by a fountain. This time, she could take in the words. Thank you, Violeta and Doris, for the bouquet, balloons and photos.
Dinner included steak, salad, bread, a berries margarita and guava mezcal. Dalia was nervous, so we moved outside for a more private conversation. Laughing away the nerves and reading the letter again made the moment feel like it belonged to the two of us.
